Events in Yorkshire

In Yorkshire and Humberside for young trade unionist week I'm aware of loads of things going on.

This includes events in workplaces in Hull on Monday the 15th, Rotherham on the 17th, Bradford on the 18th and Barnsley on the 19th. There will also be an event in Northallerton during the week as well.

I will be attending most of these events and I'm excited that I'm going to be out and about meeting as many young members as I possibly can during the week.

Hopefully we can sign up more members to PCS and more activists to the young members network during young trade unionist week.

God knows we will need them for the PCS national campaign ahead.

PCS announced its national ballot on the civil service pay cap yesterday, details of which can be found here.

It's likely to be a long campaign so we'll need all the PCS young members we can get on board.

Here's to a great young trade unionist week and hopefully I'll see you at some point soon!

Cheers.

i am a 22 year old member of pcs and i have been for 4 years! Last year i got my 1st mortgage, and with the proposed "pay rise" i will not be able 2 pay my mortgage payments and will shorely be made homeless! Surely i cannot be the only one! We must take whatever industrial action necessary to prevent this from happening to our youngest, and most vulnerable members?!? We are the backbone of this country and the victims of high inflation, NOT the cause!!!

i'm a 26 yr old p[cs member, and have been for 2 and a bit years, and there's no way in hell i could ever get a mortgage, even with the so called payrise. Luckily i'm leaving the civil service soon, hopefully to a hell of a lot better terms and conditions!

and on the events side, i think the midlands region are holding a day over in dudley on the 18th

I'm 28 (and holding onto being in the Young Members Network by the skin of my teeth on the basis I got elected chair) and I cannot even entertain the idea of being able to afford a house, even if I included my girlfriends salary.

This is the case for PCS young members up and down the country and a mortgage and house is only an unobtainable dream for many.

Good luck to the poster who said they are leaving the civil service. I don't blame you I really don't!

To the person unable to pay their mortgate. I feel for you I really do.

I rent for £330 with my bills all in, within a shared house. Which is pretty decent for me.

For people like you these pay rises don't just mean the difference between a weekend out or or not during the month.

It means the difference between barely existing and being able to live properly.

I hope the government will see sense soon and not continue to dig their own grave and let the Tories in before the next election.

but I wouldn't bet on it!!!

Thanks for letting me know about the Dudley event. The Midlands young members are excellent.
